Preparing for War[]
Yabushige informs Omi that Lord Toranaga gave him command of the Anjin’s artillery. Omi immediately offers Yabushige command but Yabushige doesn't take this well, implying that he is still in command of all and that Omi continues to serve underneath him. Yabushige tasks Omi with finding Toranaga's spy, after Toranaga made some accusations against Omi and Yabushige for planting seeds in Yoshii Nagakado's head about killing Jozen to buy more time. Omi eventually finds the spy (a plant from Toranaga)- a gardener who had died the day before.
After Lord Toranaga makes the Anjin the head of the cannon regiment, Omi is not happy about having the power of the army taken away. Yabushige warns him he has more to worry about now that they don’t have the forces to properly face Ishido. Later on, Omi again gets hurt when his favorite courtesan Kiku spends a night with the Anjin, again as a gift from Toranaga.

Waiting in Edo[]

Omi is present when Blackthorne requests to serve under Yabushige, to which the latter declines after being questioned on loyalty.
As time goes on, Omi laments to Kiku as the latter observes Gin planning to build a teahouse in Edo. On the day it comes for Lord Toranaga's retainers to sign the surrender, Omi reluctantly signs the form. However, the other retainers refuse to do so and demand answers from Lord Toranaga. Suddenly, Hiromatsu silences them all as he announces he will be committing sepukku in protest of Lord Toranaga's surrender. Omi attempts to convince Lord Toranaga to stop his madness but Lord Toranaga refuses to listen, allowing Hiromatsu to to commit sepukku, much to Omi's shock.

It is revealed that Omi was notified by Osakan maids of Yabushige's behaviour following Mariko's death, to which Omi felt obligated to inform Lord Toranaga. Yabushige admits his involvement, leading to Lord Toranaga sentencing Yabushige to commit sepukku the next day. Yabushige, after some resistance, requests to Lord Toranga to have Omi be named his heir. The next day, shortly before Yabushige heads to his death, Omi bids his uncle farewell, thanking him for the lessons and for having been named his heir, which Yabushige replies that Omi was the son he never had.
