Biography[]

Serving Lord Toronaga[]

Hiromatsu serves as a general and good friend to Lord Toronaga. After Toronaga went to Osaka to meet with the Council of Regents, one of his men had an outburst defending the lord but insulting Lord Ishido. After the event, Toronaga discusses the incident with Hiromatsu and asks if the man with the outburst is married to his grandchild. Hiromatsu confirms that he is married to his best grandchild, Usami Fuji. Toronaga says he will make sure they live and Hiromatsu seems grateful for this. Lord Toronaga asks Hiromatsu to go to Ajiro in his place and he agrees.

Hiromatsu arrives in the coastal village of Ajiro. He questions Lord Yabushige about the barbarian ship, insisting that it belongs to Lord Toronaga and questioning Yabushige's intentions. Reluctantly, Yabushige assures Hiromatsu he is loyal to Toronaga and that the ship is his.

Later in Osaka, Hiromatsu consults with Lord Toronaga about the "barbarian" John Blackthorne. Hiromatsu asks Toronaga why even keep the barbarian around when his impeachment and possible death is on the line. Mariko explains to Hiromatsu that Toronaga intends to sow division amongst the regents (who must vote as one to impeach) as he believes the Christian lords will disagree with Ishido. Hiromatsu is impressed with Mariko's interpretation of the situation.

Delivering Toronaga's Resignation[]

Hiromatsu goes to Lord Ishido in Osaka to deliver the news of Toranaga's resignation as a Regent. Ishido threatens Toranaga with impeachment, insisting the piece of paper changes nothing. Hiromatsu informs him that Taikō required five regents for any vote and that he is afraid to inform Ishido he only has four now.

Saeki's Visit[]

Hiromatsu helps welcome Saeki to Ajiro after Lord Toronaga calls for his brother to come. They eat dinner together. All of a sudden, men come running declaring that Saeki’s men have blocked off every road out of Izu. A man delivers papers and Hiromatsu reads them aloud- the Council of Regents request Lord Tomonaga’s presence in Osaka to answer for his treachery. They ask he deliver his response to Saeki.

Hiromatsu continues to support his friend Lord Toronaga, even when he decides to surrender.

Waiting to Make Moves in Edo[]

Lord Toronaga and his defeated group of men depart Ajiro and head for Edo. Omi, Buntaro, Hiromatsu, Yabushige and others share stories of the late Nagakado and honor his life. The next day, they hold a funeral for him but Lord Toronaga does not attend because he’s sick from the journey. Hiromatsu tells Yabushige that Ishido requested he first go to Osaka alone to return the guns and cannons.

Father Alvito goes to speak to Lord Toronaga and informs him of Ochiba no Kata’s hatred of him and her alliance with Ishido. He suggests Lord Toronaga ally with Ochiba and the heir and Hiromatsu agrees. Lord Toronaga continues to insist that he will surrender but Hiromatsu doesn't believe him. Hiromatsu goes to tell Yabushige and others that he think Lord Toronaga is going to fight.

Committing Seppuku[]

Lord Toronaga informs his men that Yabushige will deliver the list of men who surrender with them. He asks them to sign their names. However, many of Tomonaga’s men refuse to sign their names and wish to fight in Edo. Toronaga insists he has made his decision and now they must make theirs. Hiromatsu challenges him, insisting he will have to commit seppuku. Omi calls out to stop this but Lord Toronaga says his decision is made. Hiromatsu tells him then this is farewell and asks Buntaro to bring his sword and second him. Buntaro asks to follow him into death but Hiromatsu tells him he must live. Hiromatsu stabs himself and Buntaro cuts his head off while Lord Toronaga watches. The men watch in horror and shock.
